Habitat
Dense aquatic vegetation of marshes, wet woodlands and river margins, preferring areas dominated by long grasses, reeds and sedges. From sea-level - 1,800 m, but more frequently at high altitudes.

Eastern Madagascar.

Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 10,000 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat loss due to logging and conversion to agriculture are the main threats.
