Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Virginia Rail (Rallus limicola) and Austral Rail (Rallus antarcticus) and sometimes considered conspecific with Austral Rail (Rallus antarcticus). Subspecies peruvianus, known only from type specimen, might merit specific status.
