Subspecies
The following 7 subspecies are recognised:
albiventer (Swainson, 1838) - India and Sri Lanka to south-central China (south-eastern Yunnan) and Thailand; some may winter in southern Thailand and Malaysia.
obscurior (Hume, 1874) - Andaman and Nicobar Is.
jouyi (Stejneger, 1887) - South-eastern China and Hainan.
taiwana (Yamashina, 1932) - Taiwan.
gularis (Horsfield, 1821) - Vietnam and Cambodia through Malaysia to Sumatra, Java and southern Borneo.
striata (Linnaeus, 1766) - Philippines, Sulu Is, northern Borneo and also Sulawesi, where may not be resident.
paraterma (Oberholser, 1924) - Samar I, east-central Philippines.
