Status CR
Not recorded with certainty since 1890. Reports in the 1960s and 1984 are unconfirmed. Decline due to predation by introduced pigs, rats and cats.

Habits
Flightless. May be crepuscular or nocturnal.
Food
Invertebrates, including earthworms.
Subspecies
Sometimes placed in genus Tricholimnas, or in Rallus.
