Subspecies
Often placed in a species-group with Pinon's Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula pinon) and Bismarck Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula melanochroa). Affinities have also been suggested between these species and the Barking Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula latrans) superspecies. Racial differences slight, and validity may require reassessment. Original spelling is mullerii, rather than müllerii or muellerii.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

  • mullerii (Temminck, 1835)   -  Northern New Guinea from eastern shore of Geelvink Bay east to Astrolabe Bay.
  • aurantia (A. B. Meyer, 1893)   -  Aru Is and southern New Guinea from R Mimika east to R Brown, including offshore islands of Boigu and Daru.
