Habitat
Subtropical and tropical, lowland and montane moist forest and lowland shrubland, to about 1,000 m. Usually only found on small islands.

American Samoa (B), Cook Islands (B), Fiji (B), Kiribati (B), New Caledonia (B), Niue (B), Papua New Guinea (B), Samoa (B), Solomon Islands (B), Tokelau (B), Tonga (B), Tuvalu (B), Vanuatu (B), Wallis and Futuna Islands (B).

From islands of north-eastern New Guinea through Tonga, Fiji, and New Caledonia to islands of the south-western Pacific.

Nest
A platform of twigs, placed high up in a tree.

Subspecies
Sometimes considered to include Polynesian Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula aurorae) as a subspecies. Forms a superspecies with Polynesian Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula aurorae), Micronesian Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula oceanica) and perhaps Nukuhiva Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula galeata).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

  • sejuncta Amadon, 1943   -  Islands off north-central New Guinea (Seleo, Tarawai) and Ninigo Group and Hermit Is (western Bismarck Archipelago).
  • pacifica (Gmelin, 1789)   -  Louisiade Achipelago through north-eastern and south-eastern Solomons (Ndai, Rennell) and nearby Stewart Is to Santa Cruz Is and Vanuatu, and east to Tuvalu, Phoenix Is, Tokelau, Fiji (smaller islands), Wallis and Futuna, Samoa, Tonga, Niue and Cook Is.
