Habitat
Undergrowth of lowland forest including swampy areas, and occasionally in highland forest.

Range (Guide)

Cuba (B).

Cuba; formerly also I of Pines. Also recorded in southern Florida in past, but probably only as vagrant. Repeatedly introduced to Jamaica in the past, but never established there.

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is 1,000 - 2,499 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and hunting are the main threats.

Habits
Generally in pairs, but larger congregations have been recorded. Forages in dense forest and on tracks.

Food
Seeds, berries and snails.

Voice
Distinctive, two phrase call 'uuu-up, uuu-up', last note of each rising and ending abruptly.

Probably related to Geotrygon, and sometimes included within that genus.
