Caribbean slope of Costa Rica and Panama, and Pacific slope of eastern Panama (eastern Panamá Province) through western Colombia (east to Antioquia and lower Cauca Valley) to north-western Ecuador (Esmeraldas).

Subspecies
Like most of congeners, formerly placed in genus Oreopeleia. Probably related to Buff-fronted Quail-Dove (Zentrygon costaricensis) in that both have black malar stripe and black eyestripe.
