Subspecies
Based on plumage similarities, believed to be relative of Picazuro Pigeon (Patagioenas picazuro), and thus presumably also Spot-winged Pigeon (Patagioenas maculosa). However, vocalizations, which tend to be conservative within related New World Columba, are quite different. Relationships deserve careful re-evaluation. Formerly listed as Columba gymnophtalmos.
