Vagrant to Niger.

Subspecies
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:

sharpei Alexander, 1901 - Guinea and northern Sierra Leone east to western Nigeria, western Cameroon, northern Equatorial Guinea and central Central African Republic.
pallidogriseus Parker, RH & Benson, 1971 - Nigeria (perhaps on Jos Plateau).
tristigma R�ppell, 1840 - Ethiopia, southern Sudan and north-eastern Zaire south to Burundi and northern Tanzania.
lentiginosus Smith, A, 1845 - Western Angola, north-western and west-central Namibia and western South Africa.
granosus Clancey, 1965 - South-eastern Zaire, Zambia and southern Tanzania south to central-northern and eastern South Africa.
