Subspecies
In past, sometimes considered conspecific with Indian Nightjar (Caprimulgus asiaticus).
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- aldabrensis Ridgway, 1894 - Aldabra.
- madagascariensis Sganzin, 1840 - Madagascar (including Nosy Boraha).
