Yucatán Peninsula of south-eastern Mexico; also Cozumel I.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Tawny-collared Nightjar (Antrostomus salvini) and Silky-tailed Nightjar (Antrostomus sericocaudatus), all sometimes being considered conspecific. Alternatively, has been treated as a subspecies of one or other of the above species, although vocally it may be closest to Rufous Nightjar (Antrostomus rufus).
