Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
coryi Agne & Pacheco, 2011 - Colombia to Venezuela, Trinidad, the Guianas and northern Brazil.
nacunda (Vieillot, 1817) - Eastern Peru east through Brazil (south of Amazon) and south to central Argentina.
minor (Vieillot, 1817) - Most of central and southern Canada south to northern and north-eastern USA. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Common Nighthawk (Chordeiles minor).
