Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. From 1,800 - 2,800 m.

Range (Guide)

Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela.

Scattered localities in Andes from western Venezuela and eastern Colombia through eastern Ecuador and eastern Peru to north-western Bolivia.

Subspecies
For some time was considered a subspecies of White-winged Potoo (Nyctibius leucopterus), which differs, however, in size, plumage, voice, and elevational distribution.
