Subspecies
Subspecies grisescens intergrades with nominate ocellata in northern India.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- grisescens Koelz, 1950 - From base of Himalayas in Pakistan south to about Rajasthan, and east to Bihar.
- grandis Koelz, 1950 - Southern Gujarat (Saurashtra Peninsula).
- ocellata (Lesson, 1839) - Peninsular India.
