Subspecies
Affinities uncertain. May be more closely related to Madagascar Scops-Owl (Otus rutilus) than to any mainland African species, though song fairly similar to that of African Scops-Owl (Otus senegalensis). Formerly suggested as subspecies of Eurasian Scops-Owl (Otus scops), but differs significantly in morphology and voice.
