First Described (Guide)
(Gervais, 1835)

Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland dry and moist shrubland, dry and moist forest, rural gardens. From sea-level - 200 m.

Range (Guide)
Bahamas, Cuba, Turks and Caicos Islands (NB).

Vagrant to USA.

Cuba (including Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo and nearby cays) and I of Pines, and Bahamas (Grand Bahama, Great Abaco, Andros, Green Cay); casual in rest of Bahamas.

Currently this species is not classified as a rarity in this country OR information has not been updated.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Hispaniolan Emerald (Chlorostilbon swainsonii) and Puerto Rican Emerald (Chlorostilbon maugaeus), and all formerly separated in genus Riccordia. In past, considered to include Brace's Emerald (Chlorostilbon bracei) as an extinct subspecies, but this form now considered most likely a separate species.
