Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama.

South-eastern Nicaragua, Costa Rica (primarily Caribbean slope) and western Panama.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status LC
Habitat destruction is the main threat.

Subspecies
May form a superspecies with White-eyed Parakeet (Psittacara leucophthalmus), with which has been considered conspecific, on basis that subspecies nicefori of White-eyed Parakeet (Psittacara leucophthalmus) (known from one specimen) is intermediate between present species and callogenys of White-eyed Parakeet (Psittacara leucophthalmus).

No subspecies.
