Estimated population is unknown (2010).
Status LC
Trapping for the cage-bird trade is the main threat.

Habits
In groups of 5-20 birds. Larger groups of several hundred where grass seeds are ripening or a water source is present.
Food
Mainly seeds including grasses, sunflower seeds and millet and maize.
Voice
Typical parrot-like screeches and shrieks.
