Habits
In pairs or small flocks.

Food
Almost exclusively seeds of grasses. Occasionally insects and their larvae.

Voice
A sharp, very high, thin, chseit, chseit', uttered in flight. A sharp, metallic, 'chsink, chsink'. A slightly harsh or scolding 'charrak, charrak'. A squeaky, varied, budgie-like chatter when perched in trees.

Nest
A hollowed-out chamber in a termite's mound on the ground, entered through a narrow tunnel.

Eggs (Guide)
2 - 6; white; rounded; about 21 x 18 mm. Incubation: 19 - 20 days; by female.

Young
Fledge in about 35 days.

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Golden-shouldered Parrot (Psephotellus chrysopterygius) and Paradise Parrot (Psephotellus pulcherrimus). Close to Golden-shouldered Parrot (Psephotellus chrysopterygius), and in past considered conspecific.

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Could be confused with Golden-shouldered Parrot (Psephotellus chrysopterygius), but their ranges are widely separated.
