Subtropical and tropical lowland dry and moist forest. Also heavily degraded forest, rural gardens and plantations.
Papua New Guinea (B), Solomon Islands (B).

Subspecies
Genus has occasionally been merged into Psittinus.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- heteroclitus (Hombron & Jacquinot, 1841) - Bismarck Archipelago east to Solomons (except Rennell).
- hyacinthinus Mayr, 1931 - Rennell I. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Rennell Parrot (Geoffroyus hyacinthinus).
