Subspecies
Genus sometimes lumped into Cyclopsitta (or Opopsitta).

The following 6 subspecies are recognised:

blythii (Wallace, 1864) - Misool, western Papuan Is.
occidentalis (Salvadori, 1876) - Batanta, Salawati and western Vogelkop.
desmarestii (Desmarest, 1826) - Eastern Vogelkop.
intermedius (van Oort, 1909) - Onin Peninsula, Irian Jaya.
godmani (Ogilvie-Grant, 1911) - Southern New Guinea from south-eastern Irian Jaya to R Fly. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Yellow-naped Fig-parrot (Psittaculirostris godmani).
cervicalis (Salvadori & D'Albertis, 1875) - R Fly east to extreme eastern New Guinea. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Red-faced Fig-parrot (Psittaculirostris cervicalis).
