Subspecies
The following 5 subspecies are recognised:
- viridifrons (Rothschild & Hartert, 1899) - New Hanover, New Ireland and Lihir Is.
- nanina (Tristram, 1891) - Northern Solomon Is of Bougainville, Choiseul and Santa Isabel.
- tristrami (Rothschild & Hartert, 1902) - Western Solomon Is of Vella Lavella, Gizo, Kolombangara, New Georgia, Rubiana and Rendova.
- aolae (Ogilvie-Grant, 1888) - East-central Solomon Is in Russell Is, Guadalcanal and Malaita.
- finschii (Ramsay, 1881) - South-eastern Solomon Is of Uki, San Cristóbal and Rennell.
