Subspecies
Subspecies intergrade, and are often merged.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- damarensis Reichenow, 1899 - Namibia and parts of southern Botswana south to north-western Cape Province and western Transvaal.
- colius (Linnaeus, 1766) - Cape Province and western Orange Free State east to western Lesotho.
