East of Andes in southern Colombia (southern from Meta), Ecuador and north-eastern Peru (south to R Ucayali), and western Brazil along R Solimíµes (east to below mouth of R Purús at Caviana, opposite Manacapurú).

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Purus Jacamar (Galbalcyrhynchus purusianus) and sometimes considered conspecific, but no intermediate forms documented despite their co-existence on R Ucayali, in Peru.
