Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From 100 - 1,500 m, occasionally up to 2,070 m.

Range (Guide)

Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay.

SC, central-eastern and south-eastern Brazil (southern Tocantins, central Minas Gerais and western Esp��rito Santo to north-central Rio Grande do Sul) to eastern Paraguay and northern Argentina (eastern Chaco, Corrientes).

Subspecies
No very close relatives. One of the so-called "croaking group" of Ramphastos species, along with Keel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus), Choco Toucan (Ramphastos brevis), Channel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos vitellinus) and Toco Toucan (Ramphastos toco). Possibly closest to Keel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus). Has hybridized with Channel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos vitellinus).

No subspecies.
