Colombia (B).

Endemic to central and western Andes of Colombia.

Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010).

Status NT
Habitat destruction and fragmentation through deforestation, human habitation, agricultural expansion is the the main threat.

Subspecies
May be conspecific with Rufous-breasted Wood-Quail (Odontophorus speciosus), Rufous-fronted Wood-Quail (Odontophorus erythrops) and Dark-backed Wood-Quail (Odontophorus melanonotus). Possibly most closely related to Rufous-breasted Wood-Quail (Odontophorus speciosus). Some evidence of differences in plumage colour between populations of western and central Andes.
