Subspecies
Validity of subspecies scutulatum has been questioned, as differences are slight and are masked by considerable variation betewen individuals.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

scutulatum Chasen, 1941 - Mountains of northern Sumatra.
chalcurum Lesson, 1831 - Mountains of southern Sumatra.
