Habitat
Temperate grassland, tundra. From sea-level - 400 m.
China (mainland), Kazakhstan (B), Mongolia, Russia (Asian), Russia (Central Asian) (B) (NB).
Southern Siberia and Mongolia, in Sayan, Tuva and Altai Mts.

Habits
In small groups on open ground at high altitude.
Voice
A harsh, half-whistled 'geuk-geuk-geuk' shortening to 'guk-guk-guk' and ending with a rolling 'rrruuuuuu'.
