Recent genetic study suggests that Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus), Moustached Warbler (Acrocephalus melanopogon), Aquatic Warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola) and Black-browed Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus bistrigiceps) form a monophyletic clade, the "striped reed-warbler group", in which traditionally Streaked Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus sorghophilus) is also included. Size increases clinally from south-west to north-east. In Norway, northern populations ecologically distinct from southern ones.
