Long-tailed Cisticola (Cisticola angusticauda) [XC660659]
by Dries Van de Loock from Chintumukulu Conservancy, Muchinga Province, Zambia (song)
Subspecies
Piping Cisticola (Cisticola fulvicapilla) and Tabora Cisticola (Cisticola angusticauda) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include angusticauda as a subspecies of Piping Cisticola (Cisticola fulvicapilla). Gender agreement of fulvicapilla follows David and Gosselin (2002a).
Forms a superspecies with Piping Cisticola (Cisticola fulvicapilla) and often treated as conspecific, and some evidence of hybrids towards central and eastern Zambia, but the two differ in wing formula, and they occur in different habitats and have subtly different songs in area of overlap in north-western Zambia. Both may be closely allied to Rufous Cisticola (Cisticola rufus) and Foxy Cisticola (Cisticola troglodytes). Species name is a noun phrase and thus indeclinable.
