Subspecies

Red-throated Piping-guan (Pipile cujubi) was formerly considered a subspecies of Black-fronted Piping-guan (Pipile jacutinga). Range overlaps with Blue-throated Piping-guan (Pipile cumanensis) in eastern Paraguay, but there is no evidence of interbreeding.
