Subspecies
Genus usually merged into Stachyris. May form a superspecies with Golden-crowned Babbler (Sterrhoptilus dennistouni) and Black-crowned Babbler (Sterrhoptilus nigrocapitatus), and all have been treated as conspecific.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

capitalis (Tweeddale, 1877) - Dinagat, in east-central Philippines.
euroaustralis (Parkes, 1988) - Mindanao (excluding Zamboanga Peninsula), in southern Philippines.
isabelae (Parkes, 1963) - Western Mindanao (Zamboanga Peninsula) and Basilan, in southern Philippines.
