Primary evergreen forest, logged forest and edge habitats, including adjacent tall grass areas. From sea-level - 1,000 m.

Range (Guide)

Philippines (B).

Luzon (Northern Sierra Madre Mts; one record Ilocos Norte), in northern Philippines.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through logging, agricultural conversion and mining operations are the main threats

Subspecies
Genus usually merged into Stachyris. May form a superspecies with Black-crowned Babbler (Sterrhoptilus nigrocapitatus) and Rusty-crowned Babbler (Sterrhoptilus capitalis), and all have been treated as conspecific.

No subspecies.
