First Described (Guide)
(Bourne & Worcester, 1894)

Habitat
Shady lower storeys of lowland and mid-mountain forest. Generally at or below 950 m but occasionally up to perhaps 1,350 m.

Range (Guide)
Philippines (B) (NB).

Panay, Guimaras and Negros, in west-central Philippines.
 
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.

Status EN
Habitat destruction and degradation through shifting cultivation, charcoal production and timber extraction, illegal logging and harvesting of forest products, are the main threats.

Voice
A series of rapid, rising high-pitched 'ti-ti-ti-ti-ti-tip' notes. A series of nearly inaudible pharses of 2-5 syllables 'zeeee-zu-zi-zi' or 'zeeeoo-zi-zu-zi' mixed with churring notes. Single high-pitched whistle notes of 'seee', sometimes repeated, can also be heard.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

May form a superspecies with Eyebrowed Jungle-flycatcher (Vauriella gularis), White-browed Jungle-Flycatcher (Vauriella insignis) and Slaty-backed Jungle-Flycatcher (Vauriella goodfellowi) and all previously regarded as conspecific, but now considered to differ sufficiently to warrant treatment as separate species.

Similar Species
White-vented Whistler (Pachycephala homeyeri) has uniformly pale underparts, lacking white throat and contrasting breast-band.
