Habitat
Closed-canopy primary and secondary lowland forest, preferring dry forest substrates on gentle slopes. From sea-level - 750 m.

Mindoro (central-eastern Philippines).

Population
Estimated population is 50 - 249 (2010) and decreasing.

Status CR
Habitat destruction and degradation through logging, mining, and trapping for food and trade are the main threats.

Subspecies
Forms superspecies with Mindanao Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba crinigera), Luzon Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba luzonica), Negros Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba keayi) and Sulu Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba menagei). All have been considered conspecific by some authorities.
