A study of mitochondrial DNA has suggested that Flame-throated Warbler (Oreothlypis gutturalis) and Crescent-chested Warbler (Oreothlypis superciliosa) are close to Vermivora, and the two are often placed in latter genus. Other studies indicate that both genera as currently constituted are not monophyletic, and suggest that these two species should be placed in a separate genus, for which the name Oreothlypis is available.
