Subspecies
Rhynchostruthus socotranus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Golden-winged Grosbeak (Rhynchostruthus socotranus), Arabian Grosbeak (Rhynchostruthus percivali) and Somali Grosbeak (Rhynchostruthus louisae) following Kirwan and Grieve (2007).
Previously considered conspecific with Somali Grosbeak (Rhynchostruthus louisae) and Arabian Grosbeak (Rhynchostruthus percivali), but morphological and plumage differences sufficient to warrant separation as full species.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
- percivali Ogilvie-Grant, 1900 - South-western Arabian Peninsula. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Arabian Grosbeak (Rhynchostruthus percivali).
- socotranus Sclater & Hartlaub, 1881 - Socotra Is.
