Habitat
Subtropical and tropical high altitude shrubland. From 1,000 - 3,500 m.

Range (Guide)

Armenia (B), Azerbaijan (B) (NB), Georgia (B), India, Iran [Islamic Republic of] (B), Iraq (NB), Israel, Pakistan, Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey (B) (NB).

Vagrant to Jordan, Lebanon.

Unknown to Afghanistan.

Southern and eastern Turkey, Armenia, western and south-eastern Azerbaijan and mountains of north, south-western and eastern Iran.

Population
Estimated population is 45,000 - 198,000 (2010).

Subspecies
Was formerly often considered conspecific with Brown Accentor (Prunella fulvescens) and/or Arabian Accentor (Prunella fagani), but appears more closely allied to Black-throated Accentor (Prunella atrogularis), with which it shares some features and perhaps constitutes a superspecies and all four belong to a species group that also includes Siberian Accentor (Prunella montanella) and Mongolian Accentor (Prunella koslowi).

No subspecies.
