Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From sea-level - 1,100 m.
Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Côte dIvoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone.
Forests from Sierra Leone and Liberia east to south-western and eastern Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon and northern PRCongo.

Subspecies
West African Batis (Batis occulta ) and Fernando Po Batis (Batis poensis ) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who include occulta as a subspecies of Fernando Po Batis (Batis poensis ).
