Vagrant to Qatar.

Subspecies
Acrocephalus stentoreus (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Clamorous Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus stentoreus) and Large-billed Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus orinus) following Bensch and Pearson (2002). Australasian Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus australis), a cross-regional species, is retained as a separate species contra Christidis and Boles (1994) who include australis as a subspecies of Clamorous Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus stentoreus).

The following 10 subspecies are recognised:

  • stentoreus (Ehrenberg, 1833)   -  Egypt (including Sinai) and Levant.
  • brunnescens (Jerdon, 1839)   -  North-eastern Sudan, north-western Somalia, Arabian Peninsula, and from south-central Kazakhstan south to southern Iraq and Iran and east to northern Indian Subcontinent. Non-breeding also peninsular India.
  • amyae Baker, ECS, 1922   -  North-eastern India (plains of R Brahmaputra, in Assam) east to northern Myanmar and southern China (south-eastern Xizang east to southern Sichuan and Guizhou).
  • meridionalis (Legge, 1875)   -  Southern India and Sri Lanka.
  • siebersi Salomonsen, 1928   -  Western Java.
  • lentecaptus Hartert, 1924   -  Borneo, central and eastern Java and western Lesser Sundas (Lombok, Sumbawa).
  • harterti Salomonsen, 1928   -  Philippines.
  • celebensis Heinroth, 1903   -  Southern Sulawesi.
  • sumbae E. J. O. Hartert, 1924   -  Southern Moluccas (Buru) and central and eastern Lesser Sundas (Sumba, Timor) to New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago and Solomon Is. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Australasian Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus australis).
  • levantinus Roselaar, 1994   -  Northern Israel.
