Habitat
Primary and secondary lowland dipterocarp forest. Sometimes plantations. From sea-level - 400 m, occasionally to 1,300 m.

Range (Guide)

Brunei Darussalam (B) (NB), Indonesia (B) (NB), Malaysia (B) (NB), Philippines (B) (NB), Thailand (B) (NB).

Southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, south-western Philippines (Malamaui, Jolo and Tawi-Tawi, in Sulu Is), Java (including Krakatau, Deli, Tinjil) and Lesser Sundas (Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores).

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat loss and trade are the main threats.

Habits
Shy.

Food
Earthworms, snails, insects, small fruits.

Voice
A soft but harsh 'tsit-tsit'. Also a thin , descending 'tsi-i-i-i'. In the breeding season utters a varied sweet song, 'too wee too wii-tu', repeated.

Nest
Cup-shaped in the fork of a sapling about 1.6 m above the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
2; pale grey with reddish-brown splotches.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Zoothera interpres (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Chestnut-capped Thrush (Geokichla interpres) and Enggano Thrush (Geokichla leucolaema) by Collar (2004).

Usually treated as conspecific with Enggano Thrush (Geokichla leucolaema), but the two differ distinctly in plumage and moderately so in proportions.
