Habitat
Mossy transitional forest. From 1,100 - 1,200 m.

Range (Guide)
Malaysia (B).

Montane forests of north-western Borneo.
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat clearance through logging and agricultural development is the main threat.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Closely related to Black-and-crimson Oriole (Oriolus cruentus), Maroon Oriole (Oriolus traillii) and Silver Oriole (Oriolus mellianus) and all of these, together with Black-hooded Oriole (Oriolus xanthornus), form the "Asian black-headed group". Species name sometimes misspelled "hosei".
