Subspecies
Probably forms a superspecies with Dark-backed Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula lacernulata) and Timor Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula cineracea), although ranges of Mountain Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula badia) and Dark-backed Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula lacernulata) overlap in western Java.

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

cuprea (Jerdon, 1840) - Western Ghats (south-western India) from Goa and north-western Karnataka south to Kerala. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Nilgiri Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula cuprea).
insignis Hodgson, 1836 - Western Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan east to Khasia Hills and R Brahmaputra.
griseicapilla Walden, 1875 - Myanmar (to northern Tennasserim) and Thailand east to south-central China (south-western Yunnan, Hainan), and south to Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
badia (Raffles, 1822) - Southern Tenasserim and Mergui Archipelago south through Malay Peninsula to Sumatra, Borneo and western Java.
