Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction through illegal logging and conversion to agriculture, and fires are the main threats.

Habits
Usually solitary.

Voice
A distinctive rapid bouncing ping-pong ball song consisting of a series of 18 - 20 short notes descending in pitch, 'teuk teuk teuk-teuk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-euk-...', starting slowly then accelerating.

Similar Species
Cinnamon-rumped Trogon (Harpactes orrhophaeus), the male of which has a less scarlet rump, more vermiculations on the wing coverts and duller underparts.
