Subspecies
Relationships with Rufous-and-white Wren (Thryophilus rufalbus ) uncertain.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
cinereus Brewster, 1889 - North-western Mexico (north-eastern Sonora south to northern Sinaloa and western Chihuahua).
sinaloa (Baird, 1864) - Central Sinaloa and adjacent western Durango south to Michoacán.
russeus Nelson, 1903 - Central Guerrero east to western Oaxaca, in southern Mexico.
