Subspecies
The following 7 subspecies are recognised:

nisorius (Sclater, PL, 1870) - South-central Mexico (Michoac�n east to Puebla).
oaxacae (Brodkorb, 1942) - Southern Mexico (Guerrero east to Oaxaca).
acaciarum (Brodkorb, 1942) - Southern Mexico (Chiapas).
oblitus (van Rossem, 1934) - Pacific lowlands from eastern Chiapas south to western El Salvador.
pleurostictus (Sclater, 1860) - Eastern Guatemala (Zacapa).
lateralis Dickey & van Rossem, 1927 - Central and eastern El Salvador and south-western Honduras.
ravus Ridgway, 1903 - Pacific lowlands of Nicaragua and northern Costa Rica.
