Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Crissal Thrasher (Toxostoma crissale), possibly also including Crissal Thrasher (Toxostoma crissale).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

sonomae Grinnell, 1915 - South-western USA (northern California).
redivivum (Gambel, 1845) - Southern California and north-western Mexico (north-western Baja California).
