Pelagic, coastal inshore waters. Also, dry savanna, in wetlands. From sea-level - 100 m.
Colombia (B), Ecuador (B), El Salvador (NB), Mexico (B), Peru (B) (NB).
Vagrant to French Polynesia (NB).
Unknown to Guatemala (NB).
Population
Estimated population is 80,000 - 120,000 (2010).

Subspecies
Sula dactylatra (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) has been split into Masked Booby (Sula dactylatra ) and Nazca Booby (Sula granti ) following AOU (2000).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Masked Booby (Sula dactylatra ).
No subspecies.
