Rufous Flycatcher-Thrush (Stizorhina fraseri) and Finsch's Flycatcher-Thrush (Stizorhina finschii) (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped as fraseri and moved from genus Neocossyphus to the genus Stizorhina following Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).

Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Rufous Flycatcher-Thrush (Stizorhina fraseri).
